HAVEN'T YOU GOT ANYTHING BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR BRAIN?
In last week’s podcast I spoke about switching off the thinker and being in the moment.
I also spoke about scientists who have measured that we use approximately 5% of our brains and that the other 95% is seemingly dormant. I say it is not.
I basically said it may be possible that we are already using the remaining 95% of the brain and science doesn’t know about it because it has no way of measuring the activity.
It then dawned on me that I am probably thinking several steps ahead of science because they are too busy proving the “no activity” hypothesis.
It also dawned on me that the answer has to be simple, something that already exists in the World. Human beings are such a huge part of what is already here that it has to be something that exists in other places, like electricity or magnetism.
Then I read an interesting article about cochlear implants. A discovery has been made that nerve endings in the ear will present the illusion of sound to a subject when stimulated with infra-red light.
So it stands to reason that if infra-red light can stimulate nerve endings in the inner ear to make sound, infra-red stimulation probably works in other areas of the brain as well.
Ironically the more I “think” about this, the more possible it seems that the brain is wired with organic fibre optics.
First of all 95% of the mass appears to be doing nothing, yet when we “stop thinking” we are still able to function, so beyond the thought of ego, something (another part of me) is still in control.
Second, someone has discovered that infra-red light stimulates nerve endings and infra-red activity probably wouldn’t show up in an MRI scan. The 95% of the brain that appears dormant must be doing something. After all in terms of evolution it is very well protected, so nature deems it important. We need to figure out how to measure what it is doing so lets look for other things it may be doing. The fact it doesn’t register the activity science is expecting does not mean there is no activity!
Third the brain is like a sponge. The physical structure of the brain could support such a theory. It may not be efficient for light to be used for long cable runs, such as toe control, however for concentrated areas of activity such as inter brain communication light may be a better option than electricity. We have made an assumption that because certain types of activity in the body are electrical, that the rest of it works the same way. Perhaps not?
And… Should I research this, I am sure I could find a lot more evidence!
Now I am not saying any of the above is the truth and my conjecture is offered as inspirational thought rather than as fact.
Imagine if you had access to Einstein’s blog (whose brain was certainly different) in the 1920s.
Some branches of conventional science might have shot his ideas down in flames, while others would have done their own research. Unlike Einstein I’m not here to write a paper on this idea, my job is just to make you think.
If nothing else the blog will provide insight into the mind of someone with Aspergers and my contribution to evolution is done. I’m enjoying the company.
Thank you for listening.
