Diskord Datkord
When I suggested to Jonny Slut (Specimen) that he meet my brother Adam, the band Diskord Datkord was formed.
I initially helped out by recording some demos using a four track, a home made sampler and a TR909 drum machine. I later joined the band, when we decided to play live.
Adam and Jonny took it in turns to sing – and changed outfits between numbers in an on stage dressing room which took the form of a Wendy house.
My role was ‘on stage producer’ and I had a rack of equipment which included a mixing console to blend their live vocals (and live samples of vocals) with backing tapes and to add electronic percussion, noise and effects.
We signed to SOHO records and released a cover of X-Ray Spex ‘Identity’ in 1988, b/w DD+EOFK (Diskord Datkord And Every Other Fuckin’ Kord), taking Mantronix style beats and mixing them with camp punk vocals and crazy sampling.

Obsessed with crossing over styles to create something new, among our songs were Wild Cherry’s ‘Play That Funky Music’ and Joan Jett’s ‘Cherry Bomb’ which were received well at our numerous London shows. (We once made the mistake of playing in Blandford Forum).
Shows included art galleries, theatres, The Sex Maniacs Ball and our own club The Nerve, where surrounded by broken televisions, I added live sampling effects to Adam and Jonny’s DJ’ing antics and provided demonic sound effects for the toilets!
